Star Wars Zero Company Bond System: Relationships, Cross Training and Romance
How bonds grow, what the Relationship +8 threshold changes, how Cross Training shapes progression, and whether the game has romance.

A Bond is the relationship level between two Operators. The most direct way to raise it is to keep deploying the same pair together. Once it climbs, Cross Training unlocks.
Bonds affect both combat growth and where relationships go in the story, which is why “who do I bring” has longer consequences than it looks.
What bonds actually change
- Cross Training. Mutual bonuses that unlock as the relationship grows, and one of the main progression channels in the game.
- The relationship threshold. The 1.1 patch notes name Relationship +8. Past that line, the passive Cross Trainings attached to a secondary specialization enter your selection pool.
- Story direction. Bonds and story choices feed each other. The launch material notes that choices move relationships, and relationships move how characters’ fates play out.
Does the game have romance
No. Official material only ever describes bonds as relationships and combat mechanics; it never mentions romance routes. Several independent guide sites (tposegaming, zero-company.wiki, gamerblurb) also state outright that there is no romance system, and that bonds cover squad relationships and Cross Training instead.
To be precise about the strength of that claim: it rests on official silence plus several independent sites agreeing, not on an official statement that denies romance. If EA adds a clarification, this page will change with it.
How to actually use bonds
- Fix the pairing. If you want two Operators to Cross Train each other, keep deploying them together.
- Push past the threshold. At Relationship +8, check back at The Den to see whether the secondary-specialization passive Cross Training has entered the pool.
- Pair by gap, not by preference. Missing accuracy, pair an accuracy-oriented Cross Training; dying too fast, pair a defensive one.
- Stop reshuffling pairs. Constant swaps leave every pair stuck in the middle, and nobody reaches the late bonuses.
EA has never published per-level bonus values, so there is no level-by-level table here. Percentage tables you see elsewhere are player-compiled, not official.
